Open, authentic e-learning supported by new technologies

ABSTRACT:

This study aims to explore how online learning can be designed and implemented to create more interactive and engaging online learning environments. It is concerned with identifying models and frameworks that practitioners could use to streamline processes and reduce workloads.

A design-based research approach will be employed. This involves designing, implementing and evaluating an online professional development course and then improving the original design and implementing and evaluating it again to determine if further refined iterations were more effective in facilitating participant learning. At the conclusion of research iterations, design principles will be developed to inform other educators wishing to employ the approach.

Resulting guidelines and design principles are significant for teachers and instructional designers, as they can be used to inform the design of educational learning environments, which in turn can facilitate student learning.
